PM Game 1 (Clairemont was Visitor)
- Clairemont kicked off their 2001 Spring Sox season against Santee
II 'Riot' under murky, gray skies in Santee. With cool breezes,
the players were quite comfortable as they ran around on the field.
Meanwhile the fans sat shivering on the bleachers as they cheered
on their respective teams.
As
the stats show, Clairemont pretty much 'walked' away with the first
game. 'Riot' defense allowed 12 walks and 13 Clairemont hits for
a total of 17 runs. Santee's Amy Smith struggled bravely as she
pitched all four innings. Unfortunately (for her) today was an
'off-day,' as she struggled to control her pitches. When she DID
throw strikes, Clairemont showed no mercy by squarely driving the ball
into the outfield.
Meanwhile,
Clairemont defense was HOT doing the job by holding Santee to 3-up,
3-down in the first three innings and 5-up, 3-down in the 4th. Angela
Pacheco pitched the first two innings, facing 6 batters. Marli
Trammer maintained the average through the 3rd by only facing three
batters as well. With the score 17-0 going into the bottom of
the 4th, Kyrstin Gemar took the mound for Clairemont and led the team
to victory by striking out the last batter.
Lest
anyone think that the pitchers did all the work, lay those thoughts
to rest. The fielders held up their end of the job by executing
accurate throws, and making the catches when they counted.

PM Game 2 (Clairemont was Home) - This second game of the
double-header wasn't quite the 'walk-in-the-park' for Clairemont that
the first game had been. Yes, there were more walks than there
should have been, but once Santee brought out their secret pitching
weapon (Whitney Cowan), Clairemont had to work hard for every run they
got. Of course, Clairemont pitching was a force to be dealt with
as well, as Katie 'Flash' Steege pitched the first three innings allowing
only 2 hits and 1 run, while Marli Trammer closed the 4th inning 3-up,
3-down to end the game.
